The Beccatini
So we celebrated. In the form of Martinis. But these silly people don't know the first rule of drinking with Becky... don't let her pour the drinks, especially the first ones.
And so the Beccatini was born...
With a couple of crazy Argentinans back for the week and a whole lot of crazy other folks around, it's been a fantastic week around here. Haven't done a damn thing but much craziness has ensued. Ahhh, hostel life. Crazy.
So yeah, back to the me getting a real job thing. The company is called Euro London Appointments http://www.eurolondon.com. It's a small firm, started 15 years ago by a mother/son team (now 2 brothers) in anticipation of the European borders opening up and multilingual companies opening/expanding. I'm on a 3 month trial, as is normal, and then after that ... I could be here awhile. (Don't worry Mom, I'll still be home for Christmas).
I will stay at the hostel for at least another month doing the Saturday shift and maybe some other projects. I will need to see when the pay is scheduled (only monthly payments) before I can figure out getting a flat. I think that is good - let's me have time to get used to the area before jumping into anything. Until then I have about a 1 hour commute by train each way. Not a long term plan! Although I won't be driving... I just keep thinking about the thousands of kilometres Betty & I on the Route 2 to Souris... in the snow, with only Magic 93 and CBC to keep us sane...
IN other news, I assume everyone has heard that every Island child's favourite place is forever shutting down? Rainbow Valley will become part of Parks Canada in September! Unbelieveable. I love that place. I had a strange dream last night that I was at Mom & Dad's and for some reason I had to go to all the neighbours. But I didn't know any of them anymore. It was a really strange feeling (although true because other than the fool across the road, I don't know them.) But then I check my email this morning and what do I learn??
Yes that's right, I expect for nothing to ever change in my time away. In my head, everything is frozen in time, so that when I return it can start again exactly where I left. That's a reality isn't it?
