Return of the living dead
Sorry for the absence. I suck. Haven't even been that busy really, just haven't had a chance to get on the internet when I do have a bit of time.
So highlights of the past 3ish weeks...
French food... last night's dinner was about 6 kinds of cheese and then crepes with 2 different white sauces, last week we had frog's legs (texture of chicken, taste of fish, too many bones to make it worth the effort)
Frisbee... I finally found some frisbees so we've been addicted - even jumping the fence of a cricket pitch to get in one evening (city parks close at dusk which is currently 9pm). I am bruised and battered but if only I could learn to catch... not as good as the ultimate days, playing with a wine glass in 1 hand avec les ladies of San Juan.
Parks... the weather is up and down, but luckily has been up on the weekends lately which means enjoying london's many parks. We hit Battersea on Sunday - it was at least 20 degrees here and we all got a bit of a burn - and stayed the entire day. It was fantastic. Battersea is beside the Battersea Power Station (the now defunct but still a landmark one with the 4 white pillars. Ask a Pink Floyd fan to describe it).
People... who defines 'we'? There is a large group os us around who tend to travel together... just to give you an idea of who lives in a London hostel... David, Sussie, Siim & Komala are my fellow receptionists and roommates. David is a French law student, Sussie a Swedish concert worker, Siim an Estonian IT guy, Komala an Indian South African teacher. Then there is Leander the South African naval diver, Will the Aussie plumber, Line the French optomitrist, Mike the Belgian bar manager, Antoine the French Embassy intern, Justin the Halifax graphic designer, Juho the Finnish IT dude, James the American music industry guy, Fabrizzio the Sicilian fine arts student, Erik & Peter the Slovakian chefs & waiters ... and so it goes. Everyone and anyone, all such cool people.
Work... It's good. I like the office and the people are great. There's only abut 25 in the office, most are foreigners so it's a nice atmosphere. The job's alright, not quite what I thought it would be so now it will be up to me to turn it into what I want.
Commutes... suck. I get up at 5:50am, leave at 6:40am, get to work at 8, leave at 6, get home at 7:30pm, eat, play frisbee, go to bed. On Saturday I still work here from 8-8, although it was really fun last week because I didn't have the previous 5 days of backpacker scum to wear on my nerves.
And that, my friends is my excuse for the temporary absence. Although I may do it again because it made many of you curious enough to write. (insert evil cackle).
